Practical Baby Outfits

When you’re expecting a new baby, you’ll find that so many people send you baby clothes, from your friends and family to long distant relatives. Everyone loves to buy baby clothes for a newborn to help out the parents. However, some baby clothes are more practical than others. In this article, we take a look at practical baby outfits that you will want to stock up on before your baby arrives.

Bodysuits

Bodysuits are an all-in-one outfit that fastens at the crotch over the baby's nappy. These are the staple of your baby's wardrobe; they make it quick and easy to change your baby, and they won’t ride up and expose any skin when your baby is moving around. In addition, they can be layered with other clothing items to keep your baby extra warm and cosy. If you live in a cold climate, long-sleeve bodysuits are a good idea to keep your baby's arms warm. Short sleeves might be a better option if you live in a hot climate.

Babygrow

Another staple item of your baby's wardrobe is the baby grow; these are especially useful in colder weather. Baby grows are full, all-in-one suits that cover babies from head to toe. They often have a zip or button fastening that goes around the side or down the middle to make it easier to get them on and off. It can be daunting initially to place clothing over your baby's head. With this type of fastening, you can avoid this until your baby is a bit older. However, be careful in the first few weeks whilst your baby still has its umbilical cord stump attached. You want to avoid any clothing that will rub against this and potentially lead to irritation.

Baby leggings and trousers

If your baby is wearing a bodysuit, they’ll often need something else on their legs to keep them warm. Baby leggings and trousers are a great option; choose something comfortable for your baby to wear. Jeans are very cute and great for occasions, but cotton leggings and trousers will be more comfortable for your baby and more gentle on their delicate skin. You can buy a range of leggings and trousers, choose a selection that’s suitable for the weather in the location where you live and the time of year.

Baby dungarees

When your baby gets a bit older, and they start to crawl and walk, finding clothing that’s practical and looks great is more of a challenge. Baby dungarees are very comfortable and durable; they can also be great for babies that grow quickly. The bottom of the legs can be turned up, and a little room in the body will be completely fine. Dungarees keep your children's midriff covered and provide a sturdy material for knees and bums that often come into contact with the floor when your baby begins to crawl or walk. They’re also really stylish and look super cute on babies and young children. Choose dungarees with an opening at the crotch if your baby is still in nappies.

Baby snowsuits

During the winter, you’ll want something to keep your baby warm from head to toe. A baby snowsuit is a perfect item for spending time outside in the cold with your little one. Baby snowsuits are waterproof suits that cover the entire body of your baby, lots of them have integrated foot coverings and mittens that are attached to the body of the snowsuit. Hoods are also a great addition to a baby snowsuit if your child often takes off a hat and you find it difficult to get them to keep it on.

Sock and hats

Socks and hats are easily lost or misplaced. Many babies like to take off their socks and hats for fun and drop them on the ground. Make sure you have lots of socks and hats; they’re very small, so they will get misplaced and lost when you’re doing the washing. Store a few extra pairs in the wardrobe for moments when you can’t find a sock or hat in the house. It can help if you choose baby socks that are all the same colour and pattern, this way, you don’t need to search around for a matching pair.
